There were no lacy, meringue-type confections in sight at Jean Paul Gaultier’s wedding-themed Spring/Summer 2015 Haute Couture Collection.

Perhaps a reflection of the diversity of his front row — from Catherine Deneuve and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy to Dita Von Teese and Conchita Wurst — Gaultier made clear there could be all sorts of brides and that she didn’t have to make a choice on her big day. She could have it all: a pant and skirt all at once, or a trompe l'oeil tube-dress that transformed into a cascade of giant tulle ruffles at the back.

Riffing on themes such as "To bi or not to bi"; "the bipolar bride"; and "bi my baby", there seemed to be an appropriate “bridal” outfit for any life situation, ranging from the bride in short to one in a princess like skirt with an overalls top (Lindsey Wixson transformed into a beautiful bee-keeper).

The couturier played not only on gender types and volumes, but also mixed and matched outfits to create a new “bi” anti-conformist silhouette. It was as if he had created two separate outfits, cut each in the middle then sewn each half to the other. The result was fashion-forward and pleasing, and proved he remains a fount of ideas.

Never one to care for any societal conventions, he sent older models down his runway, as if to say that one can be a beautiful bride at any age. Gaultier also played on the notion of marriage, re-marriage and divorce with the use of alluring python skin patterns.

In a final twist to his "wedding" celebration, the finale look was not the usual wedding dress, but a bouquet of flowers — in the form of Naomi Campbell wrapped in cellophane and strategically placed leaves and flowers.
