Nature is often the source of inspiration for Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika and for his Spring/Summer 2016 collection he paid tribute to the Cirse des champs, or wild thistle, creating sunburst-like patterns on his richly embroidered gowns. Hobeika, who had taken a more minimalist approach in his recent collections, is taking a more heavy handed approach with his use of sequins this season. The collection was conceived as an anthology of floral patterns, reproducing in bright embroideries bouquets of sparkling crystals or tiny feathers with droplets of colored pearls evoking the morning dew.

A honeycomb pattern of laser-cut lace or structured tulle showcased the savoir faire of his ateliers with the designer using in turn silk crepe, ziberline, lace, and organza.

In terms of silhouette, the designer offered ankle-length gowns teamed with laced-up ballerina shoes for a more casual, youthful look, along with a few above the knee A-line dress and sharply tailored pencil trousers. Floor-length gowns had a flowing feel and were often gently belted with a single flower for the buckle. Flowing capes and trains that were heavily embroidered elegantly enhanced the more minimalist sheath dresses.

The color palette was a fruity symphony of peaches, apricots, tangerines, and melons mixed with pale pink, icy-blue, and a sharp purple, and while most looks were monochromatic or tone on tone there were a few unusual pairings of pink and almond green.

The couturier has also focused attention on his accessories this season, with large white enameled blooms sported on rings and cuffs, as well as richly decorated clutches.
