Viktor&Rolf Launches Eveningwear Collection

Building on their Viktor&Rolf Mariage business, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have launched Viktor&Rolf Soir, a “couture inspired” luxury eveningwear line they described as a “natural extension of our body of work and our heritage of almost 25 years.”

The two fashion artists are known for their conceptual couture creations that put the spotlight on contemporary issues, like the need for recycling, but do so with whimsy and flair. For their Fall/Winter 2017 Couture Collection they transformed their models into life-sized dolls, complete with giant doll heads, wearing oversized variations of winter anoraks and bomber jackets; for their previous collection they reused vintage fabrics, stitching pieces together using thick, apparent gold tread, borrowing from the Kintsugi Japanese practice of repairing pottery while highlighting the cracks.

The Viktor&Rolf Soir collection offers wearable old-style glamour, while keeping bold silhouettes with oversized bows and dramatic sculptural volumes.

“With this new collection, we present our view on glamour. We put an emphasis on bold, outspoken silhouettes in structured fabrics. Shapes, colors and embellishments are bold and unfussy. We are excited to continue designing with a focus on special moments,” they stated.

The aesthetics of the dresses are clearly influenced by some of the features  in their earlier couture creations, from the dramatic bows to the volume tulle skirt with asymmetrical cut outs.

The collection features a vibrant pink and black color palette and runs the gamut from voluminous tulle gowns to flirty minis and sleek contemporary columns to tailored pantsuits.

One of the highlights of the collection is a ‘Dramatic Bow Back Column’ dress: a strapless column gown featuring a draped back with a dramatic, oversized bow that drapes into a standout asymmetric train.

The collection is produced in partnership with Justin Alexander, a designer and manufacturer of mid- to high-end wedding dresses under five collection labels: Justin Alexander, Justin Alexander Signature, Lillian West, Sincerity Bridal, and Sweetheart Gowns.
