Fall 2012 Haute Couture: Basil Soda's Wood Nymphs

Inspired by nature’s metamorphoses, the collection’s palette borrowed rich forest vegetation with dark moss, autumn leaves and contrasting pure whites. Soda’s signature style of peekaboo transparent silk organza and tulle dominated most looks, but texture was key with rich flower embroideries over fragile tulles and thick silk fringes acting like feathers around collars as the designer populated his mysterious forest with exotic birds.

The Lebanese designer continues to find inspiration in nature, though his AW 12-13 collection progressed towards three dimensional silhouettes, with floating embroideries, feathers, crystal and fringes dominating the feminine creations.

Amongst the bell-shaped sweeping skirts were a few fitted pencil dresses, either white or black, with sheer panels and shimmering embellished sections. Shoulders were accentuated on the tight bodice which had exaggerated round cut outs at the arms.
