Avant-garde theater director Robert Wilson has collaborated with several artists who participated in the Watermill Center’s annual International Summer Program to create new designs for the illy Art Collection, a series of numbered and signed editions of coffee cups and saucers.

The Watermill Center was founded by Wilson in 1992 as a laboratory for the performing arts that supports young and emerging performing artists explore multi-art forms and cross-cultural approaches.

For the illy project, Wilson contributed to an “ok” design, while artists Clo’e Floirat and Gintare Minelgaite found inspiration in the architecture of the Center itself and Willie Filkowski also took an architectural approach. Hope Esser worked with the red wolf, a reference that recurs in Robert Wilson’s work at the Center.

Previous artists who contributed to the illy Art Collection include Marina Abramovic, Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, Robert Rauschenberg, Jeff Koons, Julian Schnabel, and Louise Bourgeois, to name a few.

The new illy Art Collection is on sale at illy cafés and on-line at shop.illy.com
